Ladies 3rds into Cup final
The Ladies 3rds became the first team to book a Leinster Cup final spot this season with the super semi final win over Terenure in Serpentine yesterday.
Pembroke Wanderers 0 Our Ladies Terenure 0
Score: 3 – 1 (Penalties) AET
Sorcha Grehan netted a flick
There was no romance in the air on this Valentines Day! It was a close contest – both teams upping their tempo with the gusto of cup finalists. Cup fever was in the air covered with enthusiasm, angst, zest and desire for a place in the final!
It was a close contest with both teams battling it out to the end and beyond! In the first half Pembroke dominated in the possession stakes putting Our Lady’s under pressure, but failed to hit the back board when the chances arose.
In the 2nd half Our Ladies took some of the better chances spending a nice stint in Pembroke’s circle. Pembroke held our own with Lisa O’Rourke demonstrating her fantastic goal keeping skills. Ciara Devane played a strong and pivotal centre mid position feeding the ball on for our opportunities, but alas the backboard did not crunch and to extra time we went.
The remaining extra time was just as contested with both sides tiring but just as hungry for a place in the final. Kerry Johnson, who held the defence solidly throughout even, ventured forward in an anxious attempt to assist in the attack until the final whistle blew.
Penalty strokes were a cruel, but a fair finish to such a close game. 5 brave Pembroke players were willing to step up to the spot in an effort to win our final place. In spite of the enormous pressure and tension Lisa O’Rourke again managed to pull off two fantastic saves. Kate Hurley and Sorcha Grehan both scored solid flicks, with Eimear McCarthy – cool, calm and composed scoring the final flick to put Pembroke in a Cup final.
