Ladies weekend roundup, October 9th
A mixed bag for the Ladies following last weekend’s epic 6 wins! Will the feat be repeated again – it’s going to be tough going on the weekend’s evidence. The trip to Navan on the grit for the Ladies 4ths had only one positive outcome – they won’t need to play on grit again this season. The 4ths visit Clontarf this weekend, and after a decent 2-0 opening first day win they will be keen to put Navan far behind them after a heavy loss. The Ladies 3rds enjoyed a great day making it two wins from two against sides which came down from Division 2 at the end of last season. With 6 minutes left on the clock and 1-0 down to Corinthians, Alison Pigot came off the bench (inspired substitution from Annie Lawlor) and put a late short corner away against former Pembroke keeper Lydia Behan. Amazingly there was still time for a winner when Louise Monahan popped up the circle and calmly scooped home to take the 3 points. Super win! Next up for Fiona Keenan’s side is Bray at home this weekend.

The Ladies 2nds had a tough time out in Milltown, early days yet for Mick O Connor’s new look side, 2 deflected own goals were always going to be difficult to come back against, and the 4-0 scoreline was a bit freakish, there is still plenty of time for the girls to come back in what is always one of the tightest leagues in the province.
The Ladies 5ths got a solid win under their belts, Eleni Henry put two away, while Sarah Raymond completed a great day for the Pigot’s with a super deflected goal, the girls winning out 3-0 over Suttonians. The 6ths had what can only be described as an off day at the office away to Loreto, loosing heavily, while the 8ths also lost at home to Muckross.
Last but by no means least the Ladies 1sts fared very well, making it two wins in a row, following a 3-1 win over Glenanne – Shona Doyle, Anna O Neill and Karen Hales all scoring. Pembroke’s win was slightly marred by an ankle injury to Anna O Neill, so far enjoying a great season, the girls will be hoping Anna makes a quick recovery and with no game this weekend, fingers are crossed she will make it make for Railway on the 23rd. In the Irish Senior Cup the Ladies recieved a bye, full set of fixtures here… hockey.ie
