U14 Ex8 (1st Year) – League Semi Finals

Wicklow 0 Pembroke Pink 4
Goal Scorers: Maria Joy, Sophie McEvoy (2), Molly Ryan

As current table-toppers, the Pembroke Pinks had all to play for to retain their position. Luckily, the girls arrived in Wicklow determined to win. From the start, their attitudes were positive and their spirits were high. PW started well, the passing was good, and they continuously broke down the Wicklow defence. This initial pressure was rewarded early in first half, when Maria Joy broke through the defence to slot one home. Having secured an early lead, PW began to look more confident, taking shots and securing several shorties. The second goal came from one such short corner routine, when Sophie’s forceful shot deflected right off the defender’s stick and into the net!

The girls kept the pace up in the second half, and were justly rewarded with two more goals. Sophie played brilliantly as right mid, sending some fantastic passes into the D. One of these was skillfully picked up by Molly, who dribbled through two defenders and secured PW’s third goal. Unfortunately, PW missed out on some late chances with both Molly and Maria unlucky to convert at the back post. Wicklow’s half-time talk had spurred them on, however, and they started to really challenge us. Isabelle and Hannah were solid at the back, making excellent tackles and rarely allowing Wicklow into our D. Luckily, Louise was in goal and ready to save when they did. The team were also delighted to welcome Laura Noble back to the squad, as she put in a very skillful performance in midfield aided by Emily Mc and Eleanor. The Man of the Match title had to go to Sophie McEvoy, whose performance in mid-field was exceptional and she was justly rewarded with two brilliant goals, firing home the Pink’s forth in the dying minutes of the match.

Pembroke Black 3 Hermes 5
Goal Scorers: Lauren Treacy, Helen O’Beirne, Grace O’Beirne
On the 26 of January the Pembroke Black team were playing Hermes. It was very cold and windy but we played our best. The whistle blew and in a few minutes Lauren had scored our first goal. We were delighted. After a couple more minutes the opposite team had won a short corner. The others waiting in the D ready to run up but when they took tip they passed so fast and raised the ball and into the goal in a flash. After that they scored another goal. Then Helen with the ball ran the full length of the pitch and popped it into the goal.
After half time the opposition had scored two more times. We were all determined to get another goal in the last few minutes. The other team had won another short corner and quickly hit it into the goal easily. Then Grace received a beautiful pass to the back post by Niamh and quickly put it into the goal.
At the end the final score was 5-3 to Hermes. Our umpire was Bob Corr who did an amazing job. Our coach for the day was Zac who also did an excellent job and who gave us tips on things that we needed to work on.

Pembroke Purple 5 v Genesis 3
Goal Scorer: Hazel Simmons (2), Sarah O’Dea, Martha McCready, Amy Elliott

On a cold Sunday morning the Pembroke Purple team showed up at Serpentine Avenue to face Genesis. The first half got underway and pretty soon we saw ourselves 1-0, an unselfish pass from Sarah O’Dea through to Hazel who finished it off. Genesis equalized in quick succession. Pembroke’s second goal, was buried by Capt. Sarah O’Dea! The third from birthday girl Martha McCready saw the purples up at halftime, 3-1!

The second half was quite though! Genesis scored soon after the whistle, 3-2. Hazel answered it back with assistance from Georgia, a ball sent up the centre, Hazel was lurking behind the defence, she made a great speedy run to tap the ball in! Unfortunately though in minutes Genesis scored again, 4-3. A solo effort from Amy Elliott into the D saw her finish off the scoring with coach Zack’s stick! Also great performances from Laura, Chloe and Loren !! Well Done to all.
