Pembroke welcomes Rudi Wortmann as Head of Hockey Development

Pembroke Wanderers is very happy to announce the appointment of Rudi Wortmann to the role of Head of Hockey Development at the club. This position is a first for the club and reflects our desire to harmonise and develop our hockey structures, policies, and coaching methodologies for maximum success in the seasons ahead. In this role Rudi will work inside and outside our club with a number of focus areas around performance & social player/coach development as the club enters its centenary season.

Rudi is not a new face in Pembroke having coached our ladies 1XI in the late 90s and our men’s 1XI in the mid-00s. Following a long spell at Pembroke he helped guide Hermes women to national and international success, while developing many of our top players from underage squads through to the national senior panels over 10 years working with Hockey Ireland’s national senior women’s team and national U21 squads. Rudi also coached UCD Men’s Hockey Club in recent years and many of his players from that generation currently feature for club sides across the EYHL.

Rudi also works with Hockey Ireland as a hockey coach tutor & developer and currently works with Leinster Hockey in the role of Director of Coaching for the south east region of the province.

I am delighted to be back at Pembroke Wanderers. The club has always been a central point for me hockey-wise as well as socially, and Carole and myself have stayed in contact with many members over the years. I have gained a lot of experience and knowledge since my last spell at the club, and I’m sure I can make good use of this as the club prepares for its centenary and their next chapter. I aim to help the club become self-sufficient in the development of a strong player pipeline and pathway for its senior squads while bringing modern & progressive hockey principles and coaching practice to the club’s grassroots base”.

Rudi most recently worked with our friends at Avoca Hockey Club where he held the role of Director of Hockey. We welcome Rudi back to Pembroke and wish him the best of luck and our full support as he starts working with us from January 2022.
